The stunning Yasawa Islands is without doubt the most beautiful region in Fiji with gorgeous white sandy beaches, great snorkelling in turquoise lagoons and idyllic sunny weather all year long. This beach paradise is a collection of twelve traditional islands extending north west of Nadi Airport with lots of backpacker resorts offering budget accommodation and a lively atmosphere. This is the backpackers paradise. However, bear in mind this is a remote and traditional region with resorts run by local villagers - communication is limited, provisions can be scarce, food rather basic and services limited - be prepared for flexibility, tolerance and patience - this is the real Fiji where not everything goes quite to plan!
About The Yasawa Accommodation Voucher:
The Yasawa Accommodation Voucher system enables you to pay for all your accommodation and meals in advance by purchasing "Accommodation Vouchers", thus saving you the hassle of carrying cash (credit cards aren't accepted at most resorts, none have internet access and most only have one-way radio telephones). This simple voucher system enables you to stay at any of the listed resorts in the Yasawa Islands. Simply present your voucher on arrival - it's that easy. Accommodation options are in either a dormitory, most with double bunk beds, or in private thatch bungalows with double or twin beds alongside the beach with shared bathroom facilities. All resorts supply mosquito nets, there's generally luke warm water only and drinking water is either by natural spring or filtered rain water. All resorts have bottled water for sale along with soft drinks and alcohol. Night entertainment and day activities are organized. The accommodation voucher price includes 3 meals a day at some of the more basic backpacker hot spots (see list below). All meals are set plans and served in communal dining style.
About The Yasawa Travel Pass:
The Travel Pass enables you to hop-on and hop-off the 200-seater Fast Catamaran "Yasawa Flyer" at will along the Mamanuca and Yasawa chain of islands in either direction and get to see over 10 different islands (once you return to the mainland the Pass expires). The Yasawa Flyer departs from Denarau Marina in Nadi every morning at 8.30am and returns at 6pm. Free hotel pick-ups and drop-offs are available between the Marina and Nadi Airport stopping at all hotels and hostels along the way. A tour desk onboard the Yasawa Flyer enables guests to book ahead any accommodation in the Yasawas.
About The Islands:
The Southern part of the group is closest to Nadi with a travel time of 1 hour 30 minutes. Includes Kuata and Waya, both high islands with stunning coastal scenery, mountain trekking and secluded beaches with good snorkelling. Stunning scenery is its major attraction.
Naviti Island is the largest island in the middle of the group and takes another 2 hours 30 minutes from Nadi. Naviti has rolling grassy hills and small fishing villages. Snorkelling with Manta Rays off southern Naviti is the major attraction.
The northern part of the group takes a full 4 hours to reach from Nadi. Matacawalevu has a delightful long crescent beach; Tavewa has a lively atmosphere with water activities; and Nanuya Lailai has the famous Blue Lagoon Beach. Snorkelling and scuba diving is excellent and the Sawa-i-lau caves is another major attraction which can be visited on day trips from most resorts.
